BACKGROUND:
The California High-Speed Rail (HSR) project aims to connect major cities across California with a fast, efficient, and environmentally-friendly rail system.
Initiated by Proposition 1A in 2008, the project seeks to provide an alternative to highway and air travel, reduce traffic congestion, and help meet the state's sustainability goals. The trains are designed to reach speeds of up to 220 miles per hour, which will redefine the U.S. transportation industry. The first phase focuses on the Central Valley, with plans to expand to the Bay Area and Southern California in the future. Recently, the project received $3.3 billion in federal funding to support its continued development.
